5. NIO Inc. (NYSE:NIO)

October 2 share price $3.37 | Analyst upside 73.19% | Q2 2026 hedge fund holders 27

NIO Inc. (NYSE: NIO) enters the countdown with improving vehicle economics, although the distinction between vehicle profitability and company-wide profitability remains essential.

On September 1, NIO Inc. (NYSE: NIO) reported second-quarter vehicle sales of RMB29.06 billion, up 80.1% year over year. Vehicle margin reached 18.5%, compared with 10.3% in the corresponding quarter of 2025. That improvement gives investors a concrete operating measure beyond delivery headlines.

However, vehicle margin edged down from 18.8% in the first quarter of 2026. The comparison shows both the scale of the annual recovery and the need to monitor whether recent gains can hold.

For an electric vehicle manufacturer, stronger vehicle margins are valuable because they leave more gross profit to cover research, sales, infrastructure, and other expenses. They do not, by themselves, establish sustainable consolidated earnings or positive free cash flow.

The 73.19% analyst upside reflects substantial recovery expectations. For NIO Inc. (NYSE: NIO), the next evidence should come from stable margins, disciplined spending, and sales growth that translates into stronger overall financial performance. Investors searching for electric vehicle stocks near annual lows should weigh the improvement against the costs of competing in a demanding market.
