Cloud software runs much of the modern business world, from customer communications and sales management to cybersecurity, databases, and data analytics. Its appeal is straightforward. Software as a service, or SaaS, replaces one-time purchases with recurring subscription revenue, while multiyear contracts can provide visibility into future sales. Serving additional customers can also become relatively inexpensive as a platform scales.

Predictable revenue, however, does not guarantee predictable stock prices. On October 16, all ten cloud stocks in this selection fell more than the Nasdaq’s 2.14% decline. The selloff highlights a familiar tension in technology investing. A business can keep collecting subscription payments while investors sharply reduce what they will pay for its growth.

Hedge Fund Interest Meets a Wide Valuation Gap

Hedge fund positioning adds another layer to the story. Eight of the ten companies attracted more hedge fund holders during the second quarter, suggesting institutional interest had broadened ahead of the October retreat.

Yet cloud computing stocks carry very different price tags. Forward price-to-earnings ratios in this group range from 13.99 to 208.33, a nearly fifteenfold spread. Those figures require context, particularly when comparing reported earnings with adjusted profits that exclude stock-based compensation. Recurring revenue supports an investment case, but profitability, cash flow, and shareholder dilution help determine its strength.

A Cloud Software Selloff After a Strong Run

The decline also followed substantial gains. Nine of these ten stocks remained sharply higher over six months, including five that had gained more than 50%. That makes the retreat worth examining without automatically calling every stock a bargain.

Against this backdrop, the most promising cloud stocks according to hedge funds offer a closer look at the balance between durable demand, earnings growth, and the price investors pay.

Our Methodology

To identify the 10 Most Promising Cloud Stocks According to Hedge Funds, we screened hedge fund filings for companies primarily delivering cloud software, data, or infrastructure and ranked them by hedge fund holders at the end of Q2 2026, from fewest to most, using combined stake value to break ties.

Number of Hedge Fund Holders — 69
Value of Holdings — $2.64 billion

Database Growth Meets a Leadership Test

MongoDB, Inc. (NASDAQ: MDB) enters the countdown with operating momentum and a fresh management challenge. For its fiscal second quarter ended July 31, 2026, revenue rose 30% to $771.8 million, while Atlas cloud database revenue increased approximately 29%. GAAP operating income reached $28.4 million, reversing a year-earlier operating loss.

The database platform serves operational applications, search, analytics, and AI retrieval. Those capabilities put it close to the data businesses use to run customer-facing services, giving it exposure to application modernization and enterprise AI spending.

On September 28, chief executive CJ Desai stepped down, and former chief executive Dev Ittycheria returned as interim president and CEO. The company reaffirmed its third-quarter and full-year guidance, including annual revenue of $2.99 billion to $3.03 billion. That preserved the financial outlook while leaving leadership continuity as an issue investors must monitor.

The investment case therefore has two tests. Atlas must keep expanding, and the management transition must preserve execution. Quarterly operating profit represented roughly 3.7% of revenue, calculated from reported results, leaving a relatively thin cushion against weaker sales or higher costs.

Ranking Rationale

MongoDB, Inc. (NASDAQ: MDB) ranks tenth because its 69 hedge fund holders are the fewest in this selection. The $2.64 billion combined stake establishes institutional exposure, but the position follows ownership breadth rather than a judgment that its database business has the weakest prospects.
