6. Madison Square Garden Sports Corp. (NYSE:MSGS)

Madison Square Garden Sports Corp. (NYSE: MSGS) takes the No. 6 spot after delivering EPS of $1.16, approximately $0.53 above the analyst target used in this ranking. Shares stood at $407.10, down 1.43% in the price snapshot, another example of Wall Street treating an earnings beat and a stock-price reaction as two very different questions.

There is also a fiscal-calendar wrinkle. Madison Square Garden Sports Corp. (NYSE: MSGS) reported its fiscal fourth-quarter and full-year 2026 results on August 13 rather than a conventional fiscal second quarter. The period still ended June 30, placing it squarely inside the broader calendar Q2 earnings season. That distinction matters for investors comparing quarterly numbers across companies because one company’s June quarter may be called Q2 while another calls the exact same three-month period Q4.

This particular quarter had something most earnings reports cannot claim: an NBA championship sitting behind the numbers.

Madison Square Garden Sports Corp. (NYSE: MSGS), which owns the New York Knicks and New York Rangers, reported fiscal fourth-quarter revenue of $278.7 million, up 37% from $204 million a year earlier. Operating income reached $32.2 million compared with an operating loss of $22.6 million in the previous-year quarter. Adjusted operating income reached $39.6 million compared with an adjusted operating loss of $16.8 million.

The New York Knicks’ 2025-26 NBA championship run played an enormous role. Playoff-related revenue increased by $66.9 million from the prior-year quarter, driven primarily by higher average per-game Knicks playoff revenue and merchandise sales. Madison Square Garden Sports Corp. (NYSE: MSGS) also reported stronger league distributions, sponsorship and signage revenue, and food, beverage and merchandise sales. National media rights fees benefited from the NBA’s new media agreements as well.

For the full fiscal year, Madison Square Garden Sports Corp. (NYSE: MSGS) generated approximately $1.154 billion in revenue, an 11% increase from the previous year. Operating income nearly doubled to $28.9 million, while adjusted operating income climbed 54% to $58.7 million. The economics of professional sports have changed substantially over the past several decades, with media rights, premium seating, sponsorships, merchandise and franchise valuations turning top teams into increasingly valuable global entertainment properties.

There is another major corporate development hanging over Madison Square Garden Sports Corp. (NYSE: MSGS). Management has been pursuing a proposed separation of the Rangers business from the Knicks business and said it expected the spin-off to be completed by the end of October 2026, subject to required approvals and conditions.

For investors following sports stocks, entertainment stocks, NYSE stocks beating earnings estimates and earnings surprise stocks, Madison Square Garden Sports Corp. (NYSE: MSGS) provides a rare case where success on the basketball court translated quite directly into higher quarterly revenue.
