7. Louisiana-Pacific Corporation (NYSE:LPX)
October 2 share price $65.10 | Analyst upside 42.86% | Q2 2026 hedge fund holders 48
Louisiana-Pacific Corporation (NYSE: LPX) offers another housing-related investment case, with an important distinction between its siding business and commodity-oriented strand board operations.
On August 5, Louisiana-Pacific Corporation (NYSE: LPX) reported second-quarter siding sales of $441 million, down 4% year over year. Siding volumes declined 11%, partly offset by 7% higher prices. Oriented strand board sales fell by $68 million to $182 million, contributing to a decline in consolidated adjusted EBITDA to $79 million.
The siding business provides a potential route toward stronger earnings, but the numbers show why investors should examine price and volume separately. Higher selling prices supported revenue while underlying shipment demand weakened.
Management anticipated third-quarter siding sales of $460 million to $470 million, representing approximately 5% annual growth. However, it also projected a $45 million adjusted EBITDA loss for oriented strand board in that quarter.
The 42.86% analyst upside therefore depends partly on whether siding improvement can outweigh commodity weakness. Louisiana-Pacific Corporation (NYSE: LPX) belongs on a building materials stock watchlist because its businesses have different earnings drivers. The measurable test is whether siding volumes recover, margins withstand input inflation, and commodity losses begin to narrow.
