2. Advance Auto Parts Inc. (NYSE:AAP)

Advance Auto Parts, Inc. (NYSE: AAP) nearly takes the top position after reporting second-quarter adjusted earnings per share of $1.03, beating the consensus estimate of approximately $0.80 to $0.81 by $0.22 to $0.23. Adjusted earnings per share increased from $0.69 in the previous-year quarter, showing meaningful improvement in profitability.

The headline beat did not tell the entire story. Revenue was approximately $2 billion, slightly below Wall Street’s forecast of around $2.04 billion. Comparable-store sales decreased by approximately 0.5%, with professional-customer demand holding up better than do-it-yourself sales. The mixed figures caused investors to question how quickly the company’s ongoing turnaround could produce sustainable growth.

Gross margin increased to 46.2% from 43.5% in the comparable quarter. Improved merchandising, cost discipline, and approximately $26 million in tariff refunds helped support that expansion. Selling, general, and administrative expenses also improved as a percentage of revenue. Free cash flow turned positive, reaching approximately $120 million for the year to date.

Advance Auto Parts, Inc. (NYSE: AAP) has spent several years attempting to simplify its operations, close underperforming locations, improve inventory availability, and rebuild relationships with professional mechanics. The company competes against AutoZone, Inc. (NYSE: AZO) and O’Reilly Automotive, Inc. (NASDAQ: ORLY), two rivals that have historically generated stronger margins and more consistent returns.

That competitive gap is precisely what makes Advance Auto Parts, Inc. (NYSE: AAP) a possible high-percentage turnaround stock. If management can narrow the profitability difference, stabilize comparable sales, and generate stronger cash flow, the market may assign the company a higher valuation. If the turnaround stalls, however, the stock could remain volatile.

The automotive aftermarket offers a durable source of demand because vehicles require replacement parts, batteries, fluids, and maintenance as they age. Consumers who delay purchasing new vehicles may spend more money keeping older cars on the road. This trend could support Advance Auto Parts, Inc. (NYSE: AAP), provided the company can consistently stock the right parts and deliver them efficiently.

For investors seeking the best turnaround stocks and possible 100% gainers, Advance Auto Parts, Inc. (NYSE: AAP) presents a high-risk, high-reward opportunity. The second-quarter earnings beat was encouraging, but stronger sales and continued margin improvement will be needed before the turnaround can be declared a lasting success.
