Palm Valley Capital Management has released its third-quarter 2026 investor letter for the Palm Valley Capital Fund. The fund gained 1.61% during the quarter, outperforming the S&P SmallCap 600 Index, which declined 7.93%, and the Morningstar Small Cap Total Return Index, which fell 5.60%. Treasury bills accounted for 75.5% of the fund’s assets at quarter-end, while its equity holdings returned 4.8%.
The letter examines a market in which small-cap stocks lagged their larger peers even as the S&P 500 approached its highs. The managers draw parallels between sharp stock-price swings in a rising market and conditions during the technology bubble. They also question whether policies aimed at preserving today’s wealth come at the expense of future prosperity, arguing that rising asset prices deepen economic disparities while shifting financial burdens to future generations. Citing federal debt exceeding $40 trillion, the managers frame the debate around how wealth and obligations are distributed across generations, alongside the familiar divide between rich and poor.
Flowers Foods Inc. (NYSE:FLO) is a packaged bakery products company that manufactures and markets breads, buns, rolls, snack cakes, and other baked goods in the United States. Its brands include Nature’s Own, Dave’s Killer Bread, Canyon Bakehouse, Wonder, Tastykake, and Simple Mills. On October 29, 2026, its shares closed at $6.18, an increase of 0.65% from the previous session, giving the company a market capitalization of approximately $1.31 billion.
Here’s what Palm Valley Capital Management has to say about Flowers Foods Inc. (NYSE:FLO):
“Flowers Foods, a marketleading producer of bread and bakery products, remains in a challenging operating environment characterized by rising costs, intense competition, and a value-conscious consumer. Demand for bread and bakery products has also been affected by the growing adoption of GLP-1 medications. During the second quarter, sales declined 4%, while earnings per share (EPS) fell to $0.21 from $0.30. Given weaker-than-expected first-half results and expectations for continued pressure in the third quarter, management lowered 2026 EPS guidance from $0.80–$0.90 to $0.75–$0.85. While we expect near-term trends to remain challenging, Flowers continues to generate free cash flow and remains committed to strengthening its balance sheet. We believe demand for bread will eventually stabilize, with comparisons becoming easier later this year and into 2027.”
Flowers Foods, Inc. (NYSE: FLO) announced on October 28, 2026, that it will report its third-quarter financial results after the market closes on November 12, 2026. Management will host a live question-and-answer webcast at 8:30 a.m. Eastern Time on November 13. The company plans to publish its earnings release, prerecorded management remarks, transcript, and supporting presentation through its investor relations website.
