The bullish case for NIO Inc. (NYSE:NIO) is becoming more specific. Investors can examine higher deliveries alongside materially improved vehicle margins and a much smaller annual operating loss.

The October 1 delivery update showed 109,178 vehicles delivered in the third quarter, up 25.4% year over year. First-nine-month deliveries reached 300,301, an increase of 49.2%. September deliveries totaled 37,408 vehicles across the company’s three brands.

That supports the argument that the product portfolio is generating meaningful customer demand. The company also reported delivery milestones for its premium ES8 and ES9 models, offering evidence of traction at the higher end of the market.

The bullish inference is that a broader product range can increase scale while successful premium vehicles support the revenue mix. The value of that combination depends on maintaining pricing discipline and controlling the additional costs of operating several brands.

The Annual Improvement in Profitability Is Substantial

Second-quarter vehicle margin reached 18.5%, compared with 10.3% a year earlier. The GAAP operating loss narrowed to RMB347.2 million from RMB4.91 billion. Excluding share-based compensation, adjusted operating profit was RMB206.9 million.

Those figures materially strengthen the investment argument. More vehicles are being sold with a larger vehicle-level gross profit contribution, while the operating loss has narrowed significantly. If that relationship persists, further growth could move consolidated results closer to sustained profitability.

The distinction between GAAP and adjusted earnings remains essential. NIO Inc. (NYSE: NIO) still reported a GAAP net loss, and vehicle margins slipped slightly from the preceding quarter. Sequential delivery growth in the third quarter was also modest compared with the strong annual increase.

The bullish thesis therefore rests on profitable scaling rather than delivery growth alone. Stable premium demand, sustained vehicle margins, and restrained expense growth could improve the earnings outlook. Renewed price competition or rising costs would make the path more difficult.
