The robot revolution may have found its most dramatic starting line in Beijing. At the second World Humanoid Robot Games, humanoid machines did more than walk through carefully controlled demonstrations—they ran, jumped, competed, and reportedly surpassed several long-standing human athletic records.

One humanoid robot completed the 100-meter sprint in 8.86 seconds, faster than Usain Bolt’s 9.58-second world record. Other robots ran the 400 meters in 38.15 seconds, cleared 2.88 meters in a standing high jump, and finished the 1,500-meter race in 2 minutes and 21.63 seconds. While these specialized performances are not directly equivalent to officially sanctioned human competitions, they still demonstrated the rapid progress of robotic mobility and engineering.

A Global Competition for Humanoid Robotics

The Games attracted 666 teams from 16 countries across six continents, with more than 2,000 robots competing. The number of teams increased by 138% from the previous edition, while the number of participating machines roughly quadrupled, highlighting the growing international race to develop commercially useful humanoid robots.

These events were about more than medals and viral videos. Developers used the competition to test battery endurance, structural durability, autonomous navigation, motion control, balance, and full-body coordination under demanding conditions. Every race offered engineers valuable data that could eventually help move humanoid robotics from impressive demonstrations into real-world applications.

The Curious Case of the “Shy” Robot

One smaller robot went viral because of its unusual running posture, which viewers described as a “shy run.” The movement was not programmed merely to entertain the crowd. It reportedly emerged because the machine discovered that lowering its center of gravity, leaning forward, and reducing aggressive arm movements allowed it to run more efficiently.

Rapid arm movement can place additional strain on robotic shoulder joints and increase the risk of overheating. The robot’s unconventional solution provided a small but meaningful glimpse into autonomous learning—an important development for artificial intelligence and robotics companies seeking machines that can adapt instead of simply repeating fixed instructions.

The Real Opportunity Goes Beyond Robot Athletes

Robotic runners naturally attract attention, but the larger investment opportunity exists away from the racetrack. Advances in artificial intelligence, machine vision, semiconductors, sensors, cloud computing, and motion-control technology are already transforming manufacturing, healthcare, agriculture, defense, logistics, and transportation.

Industrial robots now assemble products with extraordinary precision, while warehouse automation systems sort and transport goods around the clock. Surgical robotics assists doctors during delicate procedures, autonomous machines inspect dangerous environments, and agricultural robots are being developed to monitor crops, remove weeds, and perform repetitive farm work.

Artificial Intelligence Is Giving Robots a Brain

Traditional industrial robots were highly effective at repeating programmed movements, but they struggled when their surroundings changed. AI-powered robots can process visual information, recognize objects, detect obstacles, and adjust their actions in real time, making them increasingly useful in environments that cannot be perfectly controlled.

Collaborative robots, commonly called “cobots,” represent another important area of growth. Unlike traditional machines that usually operate behind protective barriers, cobots are designed to work alongside people. Their smaller size, flexibility, and relatively accessible cost could allow more factories and small businesses to participate in the global automation boom.

Why Robotics Stocks Are Gaining Attention

For investors searching for the best robotics stocks to buy now, the market includes much more than businesses developing human-shaped machines. The robotics industry also depends on companies supplying processors, software, robotic arms, navigation platforms, sensors, computer vision, and automation systems—the digital muscles, eyes, and brains behind the robot economy.

Still, not every robotics stock will become a long-term winner. High research expenses, intense competition, expensive valuations, and uncertain profitability remain serious risks. The following ranking examines 10 robotics stocks listed on the Nasdaq or New York Stock Exchange with meaningful exposure to artificial intelligence, industrial automation, surgical robotics, autonomous systems, and other fast-growing areas of the global robotics market.

Our Methodology

To create the ranking for the 10 best robotics stocks to buy before the robot revolution takes off, the article evaluated NYSE- and Nasdaq-listed companies based on their exposure to robotics and automation, financial performance, market position, growth potential, innovation, and analyst sentiment.

10 Best Robotics Stocks to Buy Before the Robot Revolution Takes Off

10. AeroVironment Inc. (NASDAQ:AVAV)

AeroVironment, Inc. (NASDAQ: AVAV) opens the ranking as one of the more specialized robotics stocks available on the US market. The company develops unmanned aircraft systems, precision-strike weapons, counter-drone technology, autonomous defense platforms, and robotic ground vehicles. Unlike businesses whose robotics ambitions are still confined to laboratories, AeroVironment, Inc. (NASDAQ: AVAV) already supplies mission-critical autonomous systems used for surveillance, reconnaissance, targeting, and battlefield operations.

Its best-known products include the Raven, Puma, and JUMP 20 unmanned aircraft, as well as the Switchblade family of loitering-munition systems. These are not the friendly humanoid robots appearing at technology exhibitions, but they represent one of the most commercially advanced areas of the global robotics industry. Modern military drones increasingly combine artificial intelligence, machine vision, advanced sensors, secure communications, and autonomous navigation—the same core technologies expected to power civilian robots in the years ahead.

The financial picture is growing alongside that demand. AeroVironment, Inc. (NASDAQ: AVAV) entered 2026 with substantial momentum following its expansion into a broader autonomous-systems business. As of January 31, 2026, the company reported approximately $1.12 billion in funded backlog, with management expecting a portion to be recognized during fiscal 2026 and the remainder in fiscal 2027 or later. However, defense contracts can be unpredictable, government spending remains politically sensitive, and project timing may create uneven quarterly results. Those risks keep AeroVironment, Inc. (NASDAQ: AVAV) at No. 10, but its established position in military drones and autonomous defense systems makes it difficult to exclude from a serious discussion of the best robotics stocks to buy.
