Customers Put Money Behind the Memory Demand Story
Micron Technology, Inc. (NASDAQ: MU) reported fiscal fourth-quarter 2026 revenue of $54.23 billion, compared with $11.32 billion a year earlier, in its September 30 results. Adjusted earnings reached $33.42 per share, while quarterly operating cash flow totaled $43.97 billion. Full-year revenue amounted to $133.19 billion. Chairman and chief executive Sanjay Mehrotra said, “Micron delivered record fiscal 2026 results, and we expect an even stronger fiscal 2027.” The scale of the expansion makes memory one of the most consequential parts of the AI infrastructure story. It also makes the valuation debate unusually sensitive to forecasts: when earnings rise this quickly, even a small change in assumptions can materially alter what a forward P/E appears to be saying.
Customer agreements provide more substance than demand commentary alone. On the earnings call, management said it had signed 26 strategic customer agreements, estimated to represent more than 35% of revenue through 2030. Associated financial commitments totaled $32 billion, with the vast majority in cash deposits. These are multiyear take-or-pay arrangements, but their pricing structures vary: some include bands with floors and ceilings, while other pricing is negotiated periodically. Management also said agreements covered the vast majority of calendar 2027 high-bandwidth memory supply at significantly higher year-over-year prices. The analytical significance is improved planning visibility, rather than the elimination of industry cyclicality. Customers are committing resources to secure supply, but future profitability will still depend on costs, contract economics, and competitive production.
For fiscal first-quarter 2027, the company guided to revenue of $61.5 billion, plus or minus $1.5 billion, and adjusted earnings of $38.15 per share, plus or minus $1. It also reported AI-workstation design wins with every top-tier computer manufacturer. Those developments help explain the growth expectations in the supplied dataset, where the forward P/E stands at 4.05 and expected revenue growth exceeds 100%. Our interpretation is that investors should stress-test the valuation against less favorable memory prices and higher investment requirements. Long-term commitments improve the discussion considerably, but a low multiple on exceptionally strong earnings still needs examination. The key question is how much cash remains available after funding the manufacturing capacity needed to meet those commitments.
Ranking rationale: Micron Technology, Inc. (NASDAQ: MU) ranks second with 184 hedge fund holders. It has the highest supplied expected revenue-growth rate, 104.48%, and a 4.05 forward P/E. Customer commitments and record results strengthen the operating case, while its placement remains determined by hedge fund ownership.
